Mikelly Woodshop: Custom Website Development

Transforming a craft business from Canva limitations to a powerful custom e-commerce platform. We built a complete online catalog and inquiry system using Next.js and Sanity CMS, giving Mikelly Woodshop the professional digital presence their handcrafted furniture deserved.

Project Overview

Mikelly Woodshop approached us with a growing business constrained by the limitations of their Canva-built website. As skilled craftspeople creating beautiful, custom furniture and woodworking pieces, they needed a digital presence that matched the quality and uniqueness of their physical work. Their existing Canva site couldn't showcase their portfolio effectively, lacked professional functionality, and provided limited control over their brand presentation.

Project Goals:

  • Migrate from Canva to a fully custom, professional website
  • Create an immersive portfolio/product showcase for their woodworking projects
  • Implement responsive design for optimal viewing across all devices
  • Establish proper SEO foundation for local and industry-specific searches
  • Build a scalable platform that could grow with their business

The Challenge

E-commerce Without Payment Processing Mikelly Woodshop initially wanted to use Shopify for their online catalog, but they preferred handling sales through direct consultation rather than automated online payments. However, they still needed a professional shopping experience to showcase their products and pricing.

Solution: We built a custom e-commerce experience using Next.js with Sanity CMS for product management. This gave them all the functionality of a traditional online store – product categories, detailed item pages, shopping cart, and inquiry system – without payment processing. Customers can browse the full catalog and submit inquiries for custom quotes and consultations.

Our Approach

Discovery & Analysis We began with a comprehensive audit of their existing Canva site, identifying key limitations and missed opportunities. Through stakeholder interviews, we learned that Mikelly Woodshop's customers valued craftsmanship, customization, and the story behind each piece. This insight became the foundation of our design strategy.

Custom Development Strategy Rather than using a template-based approach, we built a completely custom solution that could properly represent the artisanal nature of their work. We focused on:

  • Visual Storytelling: Large, high-quality image galleries with before/after project showcases
  • Performance Optimization: Fast loading times despite image-heavy content
  • User Experience: Intuitive navigation that guides visitors through their craftsmanship journey
  • SEO Architecture: Proper technical SEO implementation with schema markup for local business and portfolio content

Technology Stack We selected modern, reliable technologies that would provide long-term stability and performance:

  • Responsive HTML5/CSS3 with advanced CSS Grid and Flexbox layouts
  • Optimized JavaScript for interactive elements and smooth animations
  • Advanced image optimization and lazy loading for gallery performance
  • Clean, semantic markup for search engine visibility
